Why You Should Have Your Car Inspected on Time

Many states require owners to have their vehicles inspected by a professional at a licensed inspection station on an annual basis. This can be an inconvenience and can be easy to forget about, but it’s important to remember to have your vehicle inspected on time. Here are some benefits to doing so:

Avoid Fines

Perhaps the most obvious benefit of getting your car inspected on time is that you can stay out of trouble. If you get pulled over with an overdue inspection here in New York State, you’ll have to deal with a fine. If you’re pulled over within 60 days of the expired inspection, your fine will be between $25 and $50. If it’s been more than 60 days, your fine will be somewhere between $50 and $100. You’ll also face a fine in that range if you lose your sticker and don’t replace. Plus, you’ll pay a mandatory surcharge of at least $88 to the state.

Catch Issues Early

Many auto issues, especially those that start in the engine, build up over time until it’s reached a point where major repairs are going to be necessary. Often, these repairs would come with significantly less of a cost if the issue was caught early on. The catch is the issue usually doesn’t become apparent to a driver until it’s too late. However, an inspection gives a professional a chance to diagnose those issues early on for you, potentially saving you a lot of money in the long run.

Peace of Mind

Your car is a pretty important aspect of your life. You might use it to travel long distances, get to work each day, transport your children to different events. Many people use their vehicle every day. Getting your inspection done will make you feel more at ease during all those car trips, knowing that there’s nothing wrong internally and that you’re traveling safely.
